博物館の学芸員で、言語学者であるマイロ・サッチは、アトランティスに関する新しい学説を発表するが、館長に無視される。そんな時、彼の前に、謎の女性、ヘルガ・シンクレアが現れる。彼女に連れられ、プレストン・ウィットモア氏のマンションに行ったマイロは、ウィットモア氏に熱意を認められ、アトランティスの探検隊に入れてもらう。
