南アフリカ、1893年。ただ白人では無いことを理由に一人の青年紳士が列車の一等車から放り出され、この人種差別に青年は激しい怒りを覚えた。青年の名はモハンダス・Ｋ・ガンジー。ロンドンで法律を学んだ彼はインド人商社の顧問弁護士として南アフリカのダーバンへ渡って来たのだ。彼はインド人移民に呼びかけて身分証明カードを焼き拾てることを提唱する。
